Be aware that there are a lot of illegal non-TGA approved machines on the beauty market so be sure to check with your clinic before proceeding with the treatment.

 

1. What is HIFU ?

HIFU stands for High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound. It is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that uses ultrasound energy to tighten and lift the skin on various areas of the face and body. HIFU is also known as ultrasound facelift or non-surgical facelift.

Here's how HIFU works:

  1. Ultrasound Energy: HIFU utilizes focused ultrasound energy that is delivered deep into the skin's layers. This energy bypasses the surface of the skin and targets specific depths to stimulate collagen production and tissue tightening.

  2. Collagen Stimulation: The ultrasound energy heats the targeted tissue, which triggers a natural wound-healing response. This response includes the production of new collagen, a protein that provides structure and firmness to the skin. Increased collagen production helps to tighten and lift the treated area over time.

  3. Precise Targeting: HIFU technology allows for precise targeting of specific areas beneath the skin's surface, such as the deeper layers of the dermis or the underlying muscle layer. This enables customization of the treatment based on individual needs and desired outcomes.

  4. Non-Invasive and Minimal Downtime: One of the key advantages of HIFU is that it is a non-invasive procedure. It does not require incisions, needles, or anesthesia. Most people can resume their normal activities immediately after the treatment, as there is minimal downtime associated with HIFU.

2. What is the procedure ?

  1. Consultation: During this consultation, you will discuss your goals, areas of concern, and medical history to determine if you are a suitable candidate for the procedure.

  2. Treatment Planning: Once you decide to proceed with HIFU, we will create a personalised treatment plan based on your unique needs and desired outcomes. They will identify the specific areas to be treated and explain the procedure in detail.

  3. Preparation: On the day of the procedure, you will be asked to cleanse your skin and remove any makeup or lotions from the treatment area.

  4. HIFU treatment: During the procedure, the HIFU device will be applied to the targeted area of your skin. The device emits high-frequency ultrasound waves that penetrate the deeper layers of tissue without damaging the surface of the skin. The ultrasound energy is precisely focused on specific depths, stimulating collagen production and tissue tightening.

  5. Sensations during the Procedure: You may experience various sensations during the treatment, such as mild warmth or tingling, as the ultrasound energy is delivered. These sensations are generally well-tolerated and temporary.

  6. Treatment Duration: The duration of the HIFU procedure can vary depending on the size and number of areas being treated. Typically, a single session can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the extent of the treatment.

  7. Post-Treatment: Following the procedure, there is typically no downtime required, and you can resume your regular activities immediately. You may experience some mild redness or swelling in the treated area, but these effects are temporary and generally subside within a few hours to a few days.

  8. Results and Follow-up: Over the following weeks and months, your body will naturally produce new collagen, leading to gradual improvements in skin tightening and rejuvenation. The full effects of HIFU can take several weeks to months to become noticeable. Depending on your goals and provider's recommendation, multiple treatment sessions may be recommended to achieve optimal results.

3. What are the side effects ?

HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) is generally considered a safe procedure with minimal side effects. However, it's important to be aware of potential temporary side effects that some individuals may experience. These side effects are typically mild and resolve on their own within a few days to weeks after the treatment. Common side effects of HIFU may include:

  1. Mild Discomfort: During the procedure, you may experience mild discomfort or a sensation of heat as the ultrasound energy is delivered to the targeted areas. However, any discomfort is usually well-tolerated and temporary.

  2. Redness and Swelling: Some individuals may experience temporary redness and swelling in the treated area. This is a normal response to the ultrasound energy and typically subsides within a few hours to a few days.

  3. Tingling or Numbness: It's possible to experience temporary tingling or numbness in the treated area due to the ultrasound energy. Sensation generally returns to normal within a few days.

  4. Bruising: In rare cases, minor bruising may occur in the treated area. This is usually minimal and resolves within a week or two.

  5. Rare Side Effects: While rare, there have been isolated reports of more serious side effects, such as burns, blisters, or nerve injury. These occurrences are extremely rare when the procedure is performed by a skilled therapist using appropriate techniques and TGA approved machine.
